02 / From conversation to commission

It starts with
“What if?”

You don't need a finished design to begin. A subject, a location or a rough idea gives the conversation somewhere to start.

01 — IMAGINE

Talk through the idea.

Discuss the design, size, materials and where the piece will live. Send the details and any references that help explain your vision.

02 — REFINE

Give it a clear direction.

A sketch or photo helps you and the artist agree on the design before carving begins. A written work order records the project details.

03 — CREATE

Make room for the real thing.

After approval, a deposit secures a place in the schedule. The remaining balance is due when the project is finished.

Every commission is individual. Discuss timing, material, delivery and the project quote directly with Kris.

A creative outlet. A family business.

Built around
the joy of making.

The year an experiment with a carving chainsaw began a new chapter.

Meet Kris Connors.

What began as a personal creative outlet grew, one request at a time, into a full-time family business. The work expanded from wood into concrete, resin, metal, clay, bronze and foam — and into dimensional signs.

Based in Nickelsville, Virginia, Custom Sculpture & Sign Co. ships pieces across the United States.

Before we begin

A few useful details.

Which material is right for my project?

The studio works across wood, bronze, concrete, foam, resin, metal and clay. For dimensional signs, options include wood, PVC and HDU foam. Discuss the design and display setting before choosing.

How do I care for a wood carving?

Care depends on the finish and display location. Outdoor wood needs appropriate protection and periodic maintenance; natural splitting can occur. Ask Kris for guidance for your specific piece.
